W E D D I N G || Taija & Desmond – Spokane, Washington

There’s something about getting married in a house full of memories. Antiques, beautiful walls crowded with family portraits, delicate figurines on shelves, and an atmosphere of comfort greeted me as we arrived to capture Taija & Desmond’s incredible day–as well as a host of the most cheerful bridesmaids in THE ENTIRE WORLD. While booming laughter sounded from the basement, where Desmond and his Merry Men were getting ready, Taija and her girls were laid back, chill, making jokes, and remembering great moments from their friendships.

One of the most incredibly important parts of this day, for me (as a nerdy girl that loved Sailor Moon in High School and felt awkward and “different” all through high school) was the level of acceptance for Desmond and Taija. They played Korean Pop Music, they locked arms and skipped into their reception, laughed with wild abandon, danced as if they were the only ones in the world, and made nerdy reference after nerdy reference–and everyone there smiled, laughed, and enjoyed it.

I know that you’re probably thinking “Well, yeah, it’s their wedding.” But…to me, it was even more special to see people that I genuinely think are some of the coolest people I’ve ever captured, in their element, surrounded by people who celebrate their unique and awesome personalities. It was, without a doubt, one of the happiest and most jovial celebrations we captured, and I have no doubt it went on for quite some time after we were finished.

W E D D I N G || Morgan & Luke || Historic Blaine Schoolhouse, Moscow, ID

Ever since this wedding, I’ve been hugging my family tighter, laughing with less reserve, drinking more wine, and allowing myself the guilty pleasure of loving vintage leather shoes and my naturally curly hair.

Morgan and Luke (And Co.) transformed an old school house that was surrounded by dirt roads and wheat fields into a gorgeous venue. Calico print and handkerchief banners brightened the entryway, vibrant wildflowers covered as much surface area as they could allow, and white lanterns and bright yellow streamers swayed on the ceiling, intermixed with strands of lights.

I cried shooting this wedding. I cried while I was culling this wedding, and I’m crying right now, writing about this wedding. It was such an explosion of raw, unhindered emotion, deep family ties, unconditional love, and the greatest, most incredible group of friends one could be lucky to surround themselves with. Laughter was as constant as the hum of twilight-chirping crickets, as deep as the red hues of the sunset. Tears flowed as openly as the wine and beer (and hidden troves of something stronger), and the love. Ah, the love! The love that was shown and received all that night was enough to make everyone cast aside reserve and dance like they had something to give back.

It was the most lavish wedding I’d ever been to, the wealthiest event I’ve captured this season, and I walked away from it, and drove home, and still felt rich.

That’s the power of love. And if you doubt me, ask this guy from the wedding named Mike about it–he’ll explain it to you, using the Force as his guide.

An incredibly special thanks to my sweet sister Jamee of J. Lynn Photography for being my second shooter this weekend–she never fails to comfort me in my weakest moments, challenges me to think outside the 2×3 box I shoot in, and encourages me in my successes–just as an older sister should. ❤
